Integration of D-FACTS Devices in Power Flow Studies of Distribution Networks Using MANA

Distribution system operators (DSOs) face growing challenges for voltage regulation in LV networks, notably due to the high R/X ratio. D-FACTS devices (D-SVS, D-SSSC, D-UPFC) provide effective means to modulate power flows and voltage profiles. This paper proposes explicit modelling of these components within the MANA formulation, integrated with the Newton-Raphson method for three-phase four-wire network studies.

  • D-SVS, D-SSSC and D-UPFC modelling using the MANA formulation
  • Model validation by comparison with PowerFactory (DigSILENT)
  • OPF study: 12–13% Joule loss reduction on a 14-node network
